ACTIVITIES & MINISTRIES

Weekly Bible Study

Every Wednesday night at 7pm we gather for a weekly Bible Study.  This is a very relaxed group with no prior Bible reading or knowledge required.  We gather, read a passage from the Bible together and discuss what we think might be going on in text, what the meanings of the text are, and if any guidance can be gleaned on how we are to think about God and live our lives as Christians following Jesus Christ in the world.  All are welcome.

Community Dinners

As a mission of the Deacons of First Presbyterian Church, they put on a free community dinner every other month right in the main room of the church.  They open the doors of the church and invite any and anyone in to come and share in a meal and fellowship with their neighbors.

Family Movie Nights

During the summer months when children are out of school we host Family Movie Nights inside our large Sunday School Room (that is air conditioned) and provide free snacks, drinks and most importantly a safe space where children and their families can gather and watch a movie.  Past movie showings have included: E.T., The Lego Movie, Despicable Me, Frozen.

Food Cupboard

Another ministry of the Deacons is to collect canned goods for our food cupboard.  They allow any individual or family that is in need of supplemental food items to "shop" its small market of canned goods and select what they would like.  All excess food contributions are donated to the food cupboard at the Lutheran Settlement House.

Community Partnerships

With a large building in a prime location we have the ability to partner with various outside organizations in sharing the space that we have.  Organizations include Fishtown Playschool, Sister Cities Girlchoir, Fishtown Neighbors Assocition, 26th Police District of Philadelphia, and PennDot/Aecom in hosting the I-95 Historic Artifcat Exhibit.

Halloween "Light the Night"

Every year on Halloween night we open our doors and come outside and provide a space and enjoyable space where families can bring their children.  We hand out bags of fresh popped popcorn, homemade Hot Chocolate, bags that overflow with candy, and have games/activities to play in our parking lot.
